dear purim gifts creator
First of all... Hi! I am beyond excited that we share one fandom (or perhaps even more?) and that this has brought us together on this occasion. Let me tell you one thing, no matter what you decide to create for me, I will be absolutely thrilled with it - thank you so very, very much in advance! ♥ What I would like you to know is that, to me, it is most important that what you write is something you are comfortable with and that you enjoy writing; you will find a list of things I love below, but these are merely suggestions, because no matter what direction you end up going to.

I love angst. Anything angsty, really, angst is my crack and my favourite thing to read (or listen to, in case you are a Podficcer! Podfic will/would be fantastic! :D) in fanfiction. Angsty art is also amazing, though! Just... Angst. I have to say that, while I adore dark pieces in general, I am not fond of the extremes; so I'd prefer if there were no highly graphic stuff - no heavy torture or kinks (including PWP, m-preg, mutilation, etc) please, if possible! What I do not enjoy as much either are extreme AUs (i.e. modern!AU for ASOIAF, which is something I highly avoid) and crossovers, nor do I like very fluffy fluff in the written word a lot. It doesn't have to be all darkness, destruction and gloom (unless you want it to be! Again, whatever you are comfortable with writing is great), but 100% fluff is not something I particularly enjoy reading/listening to. Looking at it is great, though, I love adorable fluffy artwork! I do have a very soft spot for hurt/comfort and hints of romance in an angsty/dark piece, though.

Since in this exchange we match on fandoms and not characters, I will list my ultimate favourites for you that give me an explosion of feels but won't go too much into detail about them. You are absolutely not obliged to write me any of the characters I suggested here (again, whatever makes you happy makes me happy!), but of course it would absolutely warm my heart and make me all giggly and excited if you would!

The Addams Family TV (1964)
Morticia Addams

I really do love all of the show's regular women (Ophelia, too! An Ophelia & Morticia fic would be a lot of fun :D), but most of all... MORTICIA. SO SO SO MUCH MORTICIA, OMG. I have fallen in love with her in the very, very first episode and I doubt that anything could ever make me un-fall for her. I adore her strength and at the same time her vulnerability and the fact that she does not attempt to hide it but simply allows herself to feel whatever she is currently feeling. I adore the hint of sadness in her eyes, that shines through particularly when an issue was not resolved entirely or still stings deep, I adore that she is the true matriarch, the true head of this family and that everyone listens to her. And I adore her with Gomez because I ship those two to death and beyond! <3333.

The only thing I request of you in case you do indeed decide to go with Morticia is to please stick to Carolyn Jones' portrayal from the TV Show (which is what I requested). Not only because I am very much in love with her but mostly because she is my one true Morticia. Anjelica Huston was fabulous (and I have yet to see Daryl Hannah and Ellie Harvie's performances) but she did create her very own character that hardly resembles the one Carolyn Jones showed us, which, of course, is far from a bad thing, but Carolyn Jones and John Astin were simply the Morticia and Gomez I have come to love so very dearly.

The Mummy Returns
Evelyn Carnahan O'Connell

Evie just is the cutest thing. And she's such a badass! I simply adore the development she went through off-screen between The Mummy and The Mummy Returns and would love to have more of that explored! Or just brief moments of her life around the time of that movie, anything goes with her really. Moments with Rick (another OTP of mine)? Or maybe a Nefertiri fic? That would be great too!

Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries
Phryne Fisher, Elizabeth "Mac" MacMillan

I have no words for how much I adore this show and these two characters. Phryne is so beautiful in each and every way, and Mac... I love Mac just about as much, haha. I totally ship them as well - I can never decide whether I ship Phryne more with Jack or with Mac, but Mac... Whether romantic or not, their relationship is so beautiful and intense and gorgeous, and I adore absolutely every aspect of it!

Just like with Addams Family (which I'm not sure I mentioned), if you indeed go with Phryne, I've been looking for some angsty vulnerable!Phryne Miss Fisher fic everywhere but to no avail, so of course it would absolutely warm my heart to receive an angsty piece! If it starts going into a different direction, however, that's perfectly fine as well! Anything would be totally amazing <3.

Gilmore Girls
Emily Gilmore, Lorelai Gilmore

Emily has always been my one and ultimate favourite character of the show - I've always adored Lorelai as well, but Emily was the one who stole my heart and wouldn't let go. I love her so much, anything about her even though she obviously has her flaws (just as they all do, which makes them so lovable), and her relationship to her daughter is so heartbreaking but has SO MUCH potential to explore further. Nearly the same counts for Lorelai as well, I love her to bits and pieces.

My respective OTPs for the characters are Emily/Richard and Lorelai/Luke, which of course doesn't mean at all that, if you choose either or both of them, you need to necessarily incorporate them. I'm perfectly happy with gen!fic, but I'd just ask of you not to hook them up with any other people, because these two ships are some of the few ones I'm actually kind of stubborn about... I just couldn't imagine either woman with any other man.

Memoirs Of A Geisha
Mameha, Hatsumomo

Mameha is one of my favourite literary characters ever. This book will forever remain my favourite and I cannot even express the love I feel for Mameha since the first time I read it. Same goes for movie!Mameha! Michelle Yeoh is absolutely GREAT for her and I couldn't picture anything else. All throughout the book, Sayuri has been given such great advice by Mameha over and over again and we got to see so much of her but then at the same time so little. She's so incredibly disciplined and never loses focus, but she is vulnerable, too, and thre have been rare moments where we see that. I do believe she had feelings for the Baron (and probably hated herself for it) and I do believe that she truly liked Sayuri/Chiyo not only because the Chairman set her up to train her. There is SO much to explore with this character, there are such endless possibilities, anything would just totally excite me!

As for Hatsumomo, she just fascinates me. Mameha suggests in the book that she has been a brat and a diva since her childhood, but of course something must be behind there. She's desperate to survive, and she's desperate to seek love and pleasure but that doesn't go together - maybe that's what made her bitter? What did make her bitter, what did in the end make her so cruel? Was it really jealousy of this pretty new girl or just blank fear that she wouldn't be able to survive if someone took her place? Again, there is so much to explore with her, it's just great!

Cracks (2009)
Miss G, Di Radfield

I will say that I am not a huge fan of Fiamma, but otherwise I would be so very excited about pretty much everything and everyone - Cracks is so fascinating, and particularly Miss G's story doesn't really let me go. I would love to know more about her backstory, about how she became the person she is, and... Just everything. The same counts for Di - and especially her relationship to Miss G is so unhealthily intriguing... Did I mention that just about everything about the whole movie is brilliant and needs so much more discovering?

James Bond (Craig Movies)
Vesper Lynd

VESPER VESPER VESPER VESPER, OMG DID I MENTION VESPER ALREADY? There are no words for how much I adore her - her story is so beyond tragic and I truly believe that she loved James with all her heart... Otherwise she wouldn't have acted in the way she has. Vesper is definitely my favourite woman in the entire Craig-Bond-Universe, but I certainly wouldn't say no to discovering M (particularly her relationship to James) or Madeleine either... But Vesper!fic, particularly Vesper/James, would warm my heart so very much.

Pretty Little Liars
Alison DiLaurentis, Spencer Hastings, Mona Vanderwaal, Hanna Marin

I actually like most of the girls in this show (except for Aria - never got into her storyline and character at all), but my ultimate favourites are listed above. I've only recently discovered my love for present-time!Alison (since I've only just started with Season 5 and am therefore a tad behind), and my heart has always been beating for Spencer and Mona in particular. They're all so broken, they all need a massive hug, and I think I've mentioned before that I'm always drawn to the angsty part of fandoms. Anything about them would be beautiful - I have no real ship preferences save for Spencer/Toby, except that I actually quite like Alison/Emily and Hanna/Caleb too.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Queenie Goldstein, Tina Goldstein

OH MY GIRLS <333. Queenie was my favourite character in the whole movie, and Tina was super high up the list as well - anything about them would be amazing, there is so much to discover about them still (Queenie's coping with losing Jacob, maybe? HEART. BROKEN.), their relationship, how they grew up, etc. and I don't really have anything else to add to that... I just love them so much, I'd be absolutely happy and thrilled about receiving anything at all that centers these two.

Just to repeat, these are merely suggestions. Whatever and whoever you decide to go with will surely be more than fantastic and I will most certainly adore it. Thank you so much again, I am really excited to receive what you will create for me! ♥

Love all your choices! Well... PLL – I admit I like Aria's wardrobe but her storylines were so boring I long since wonder if she's not the super villain Über-A of this last season. ;) Mona and Hanna are my favourites.

Tina was my absolute favourite on FBAWTFT. <3 Plus some sisterly bonding is always good.

So – I know we talked about me being paralysed by deadlines but I am still dreaming about making more of an effort. I'm sorry to see that I missed the deadline for this fest/challenge since it seems so diverse. Perhaps – if you find the time – can you make a list with fests/ficathons/challenges you think about participating in? Since I'm so out of touch with fandom I always seem to miss these things. Thank you! *hugs*

Thanks! :D And haha, yeah her wardrobe is pretty cool at times, but I do have more of a thing for Spencer's style xD. Mona and Spencer shared my Number One status of the favourites

My favourite was Queenie! <3 SHE'S SO PRECIOUS OMGGGG HAHAHA. And yes, it is! :D

Oh you didn't miss it at all - sign-ups only just opened today (or yesterday?) and I'm on top of things for once when it comes to signing up and writing letters, so you would be perfectly on time to still jump into the fun :D Purim Gifts is the thing! And if you like to start a bit "easier", Chocolate Box has sign ups open currently as well, and the minimum word count of that is only 300 words :D
Nina: <derrière moi> bettyhoneymink on January 3rd, 2017 09:17 pm (UTC)
I wasn't much into Spencer until maybe season 7A and that was because [Spoiler (click to open)]I seriously thought about shipping her with Yvonne. (Not really or much of a spoiler but just in case ;)).

I read the script first and worried that Queenie would be and over the top version of Eleanor Broadman/Marilyn Monroe. Of course there are still hints but I was so glad to see that they didn't overwork the characters or make them ridiculous. That goes for Queenie and especially for Jacob – I feel his character could have easily gone wrong and he could have ended up being the clueless American Muggle comic relief but he was so sweet and caring with the creatures, in constant unafraid wonder of all the new things he discovered and obviously besotted by Queenie but in a sweet and not in a common way. I think Tina was my favourite because for me it was easy to identify with her – she liked her work and wanted to be good at it, yet she had learnt her lesson of not being annoying or pushy after the incident that got her demoted (I know that happened off screen... still, I thought that was good to know that she learnt from it in the sense that where Newt was concerned, she tried to be more circumspect). I liked that she was loyal to her sister and generally loved her style – it was kind of Marlene Dietrich-esque, I thought.

Oh thank you so much. I'll definitely look into those two! Good to know! *hugs*

ETA: For Chocolatebox – do you know if it has to be the pairings that they list under fandoms or can you choose a different pairing in one of the fandoms though the pairing isn't (yet?) listed? http://archiveofourown.org/tag_sets/1552/

Haha, I've loved her from the first moment on tbh - and that love only intensified over the seasons haha, she's amaziiiiiing tbh :D

And ohhhhh yeah - the script hadn't even been released by the time I saw the movie, so I absolutely had no time to worry about anything, haha. And oh God yes, Jacob - I loved him, he was so incredibly sweet, and Queenie too and they all were amazing... :D And I sort of identify with Tina in that way too, I really wanna be good in what I do too <3333. And yes, the styles of the two women generally were gorgeouuuuuuuuus.

Chocolatebox had a nomination period where you could nominate your favourite pairing constellations (platonic and romantic, "&" indicating platonic relationships and "/" the romantic ones) and fandoms to be approved to fit into the exchange... So you'll have to take whatever you find listed in the tag set, because those are the eligible fandoms and characters, since we're in the sign-up phase already :D
Ninahoneymink on January 6th, 2017 10:20 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I didn't find anything on Chocolatebox that really appealed to me. Still not so sure about signing up – but keep the suggestions coming. :) I'm not really sure if I can write again. I don't know... my mind is elsewhere and I'm kind of sad, I don't know. (See last post)
avi ☁ the faerieflyingharmony on January 7th, 2017 09:43 pm (UTC)
Aww, yeah - thankfully you still have some time to sign up, and even if you do and find that you cannot do it, there is always the default button. Plus, Purim is just 300 words per day so maybe it'll help you find your groove back? Somehow? I'll find more suggestions for you too as the fests keep coming :D
Nina: <cj> even Lily/Jordan can't believe it!honeymink on January 7th, 2017 10:13 pm (UTC)
Yes, that's what I thought 3x 300 words should be doable, plus it's such a joyful holiday so... I'm wondering what to request and offer... Fantastic Beasts should make the list. :)))

I got that right though – you have to offer to write in three different fandoms at least? And they do not necessarily have to be the same fandoms you make your requests in? I'm so rusty, I don't want to do it wrong.
avi ☁ the faerieflyingharmony on January 7th, 2017 11:16 pm (UTC)
Exactly! Hopefully it'll really help you find some more joy in writing again, that would be awesome. I decided to offer/request Fantastic Beasts for the first time ever in Chocolate Box / Purim, and I'm so terrified but excited, haha. It's going to be so much fun :D

And yeah, exactly - you have to offer at least three fandoms to write and based on these you will then be matched with your recipient, sometimes with just one fandom but I've had more matching fandoms before too, even though that's sort of rare. And you can request whichever ones you like, so if they happen to be the same ones as the ones you wanna write, that's absolutely fine, but not required at all :D
Nina: <derrière moi> bettyhoneymink on January 7th, 2017 11:24 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I missed the nomination period for that chocolate box thing and then I looked at their list and there was "Eye Candy" on it and I was so excited but then it turned out it was only for one very specific pairing which wasn't the pairing I wanted to offer or write. That was a huge bummer.

And thank you for explaining. So one fandom down... two to go... I was thinking perhaps of "Das Adlon" and Tamara Lieberkoff as a character (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Das_Adlon._Eine_Familiensaga)... I just love period drama.
avi ☁ the faerieflyingharmony on January 8th, 2017 05:33 pm (UTC)
Ugh yeah, I know that feeling - that's why I make sure I never miss a nomination period, because my requests are already sort of specific and non-mainstream mostly, so I'm pretty much chanceless to find anything if I don't nominate it myeslf, haha.

And oh noooooo, that is really a bummer! I'll make sure to warn you ahead when the next AO3 Exchange comes up, then you can nominate at your heart's desire.

Ohhh, Period Drama <3333. I do love it toooo *_____*
Nina: <derrière moi> bettyhoneymink on January 8th, 2017 05:40 pm (UTC)
I know, right? Somehow I always seem to be interested most in things that are really not mainstream.

And thank you, I appreciate it.

I just can't help it... if it's period drama, I'm likely to give it a try. ;)
avi ☁ the faerieflyingharmony on April 10th, 2017 05:42 pm (UTC)
Haha, tell me about it, that's totally me too xD.

Did you give it a try yet? IF YES, HOW DID YOU LIKE IT? XD
Nina: <derrière moi> bettyhoneymink on April 10th, 2017 08:30 pm (UTC)
LOL I got totally lost in the thread here – what was I going to give a try again? I'm so sorry I'm so dense, please remind me!

Perhaps – if you find the time – can you make a list with fests/ficathons/challenges you think about participating in?

I second this! You seem to always have a new Dear Author letter, and I never have any idea any fest is going on! Of course, my muse has been AWOL for forever, so it may not help me at all, but if you have any heads-ups, I'd love them! :)
avi ☁ the faerieflyingharmony on January 6th, 2017 10:18 pm (UTC)
Haha, okay xD. I'll compile a list for you (just give me a few more details what you'd like to write? Haha, characters, genre, etc :D) and get back to you ASAP XD

I thought I leave the comment here though I'll reply individually on AO3 in a moment. I'm really glad you liked the liked my little gifts, I really wasn't sure to be honest if I was "doing it right".

I feel compelled to say one thing though about "Cracks" – as you said in the sign-up, you don't care much for Fiamma and I did my best to respect that when writing for you. Obviously, everyone has their thoughts and preferences and that's absolute legitimate. But the thing is, which I want to share with you since I feel we've really become friends these past months and I hope to continue down this path – I feel a deep kinship when it comes to Fiamma as I've been sexually abused by my music teacher in highschool (and was raped a few years ago). I know that in the movie, Fiamma often comes across as abrasive which is off putting to her peers and might be perceived so by the audience as well. However, I can't help but be impressed by her insistance right towards the end that she did not want consent and that somebody in authority has to be told. This was something that was literally beaten out of me back in the day. As for Miss G – even though she didn't kill Fiamma in the book, I had no sympathy for her there as it was strongly alluded to that she was a predator and had a new girl that she favoured/molested ever year. Meanwhile, I can muster some sympathy for Miss G in the movie – that's why I could write the fic. It seemed very clear that this was the first time she did anything of the sort (not that this justifies her actions). She seemed lost and there's a certain ambiguity there where you understand she craves Fiamma's friendship along with or perhaps even before anything sexual. I'm sorry but I needed to get this off my chest.
avi ☁ the faerieflyingharmony on April 10th, 2017 05:50 pm (UTC)
I really, really did! They were amazing, all of them, and I adored that they were all from three different fandoms <3333.

OMG, that is... Horrible, I really don't know what to say except maybe I'm SO sorry that happened to you, and... Wow. Just... Wow. But I totally get where you're coming from with Fiamma - you could have easily included her a bit more, it's not that I hate her, I just don't care all too much for her, but I don't mind her appearance... She's an incredibly fascinating character, though - and I agree with you, she does come off as that but I can see deeper than that, and she is a quite impressive character ngl. And fascinating!

As for Miss G... While of course in no way I want to or am able to explain or excuse her behaviour in the movie AT ALL, I still feel so bad for her - there are just so many of these subtle hints that she, too, was exactly a victim of the school just like the other girls are... The five things on her drawer are just the first indicator there. She's a broken soul, and unlike Di she didn't manage to break free, neither from the school nor from herself... Fiamma was probably just the final straw that broke her in the end, which, again, does in no way excuse her behaviour...

And no worries! Get everything you like off your chest, I love reading about your thoughts as you know :D
Nina: <derrière moi> bettyhoneymink on April 10th, 2017 09:09 pm (UTC)
*blush* I'm just glad you liked them. *hugs*

It was, what it was. I just said it to explain why I can't dislike Fiamma. I suppose I approach her character with a sort of fatalism stemming from my own experience - bad things happen to you, you try to defend yourself, nobody believes you (or maybe they do but they don't want to acknowledge it because it's uncomfortable and doesn't go with their world view), you die (and if not literally then inside).

And I agree with you where Miss G in the movie is concerned that was probably a victim of bullying herself while she was a student at the school, or at the very least she wasn't popular (that I draw from her outburst in that one scene where she tells the girls that they are unwanted and forgotten). Of course that doesn't excuse her behaviour. I think from a psychological angle she suffered from some sort of arrested behaviourial development because she still sought acknowledgement from the girls as if they were her peers though she was a grown woman. I tried to express that when I wrote your ficlet. As I said I could only do that because I could sympathise with the movie character to a certain degree. Miss G in the book though was a completely different story in my opinion.
